How I’ve Come to Know the Prince of Peace

In Jamaica, you know it’s Easter time when supermarkets start stocking up on Easter bun and cheese. Today I bought some myself, but telling you how good it was is not why I’m writing this post. I wanted to talk a little about Jesus Christ, whose resurrection we commemorate during this time of the year. I know many of us have heard of Him but I’d like to share how it feels to know Him personally.

I don’t claim to have a perfect life worthy of his companionship. What I am is an imperfect daughter of God, striving to make my heart more clean and my life one that inspires others to be their best selves.

On the road towards that more perfect life, I have found that Jesus Christ is that one source of peace who really knows me and always wants me to trust Him. But how have I come to know this man I have never seen?

I have read about His life through books inspired by God, like the Holy Bible and the Book of Mormon. I try to live by his example — to be baptised, seek to do good, love God, my family and neighbours, and to listen prophets of the past and present.

I also strive to be in the right places at the right time so I can be blessed with uplifting experiences. For instance, this past weekend I attended General Conference, a semi-annual event broadcasted to Mormons and available to all throughout the world. I brought four questions for which I was seeking answers.

I got my answers. I was reminded not to be fearful but to remember that the future is always bright as I strive to follow Jesus Christ.

And there was one powerful experience that I will never forget. It happened when a church sister who had just been baptised this Sunday afternoon shared her testimony. She spoke with power and conviction in a way that seemed to pierce my heart.

These experiences have reminded me that God does listen, that His Son, Jesus Christ, does love us. I also know that they are constantly seeking for our well-being. If we will look up, reach out and never doubt, we will come to know and access help from Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace.

Here’s my challenge for you! Watch the video in this post. How does it make you feel?
